Cube & Square Numbers
My ten year old is spending some of this summer undertaking Little & Often 11+ preparation. Although sadly her "Little" is now taking approx 2hours, 4-6 times a week. This is one of her maths questions taken from Eureka - Challenging Maths and Numerical Reasoning Exam Questionsbook.
Each question is expected to take 10 minutes to calculate. As I have always ensured my daughter has a strong understanding of all aspects of maths, especially the basics, her mental arithmetic and logic is incredibly strong. The question below took approx 60 seconds to calculate all three sections, mentally.
i) How many cube numbers are there from 1 to 8 million inclusive?
ii) How many square numbers are there from 15 to 4000 inclusive?
iii) How many multiples of 7 are there from 15 to 4000 inclusive?
The Eureka series of books cover the upper echelon of what is tested at 11+. Although they keep within KS2 concepts, they are challenging because they require a child to have a very good command of multiple skills simultaneously.
Each book:
- Contains 30 stimulating numerical and mathematical reasoning challenges
- Provides advanced practice material in mathematical thinking at 11+
- Is suitable for use at the very top end of Key Stage 2 and Ket Stage 3
- Is suitable for practice for scholarship exams and 13+
