Living in Marylebone we have access to 23 libraries in Central/West London. My 10 year old daughter borrows school reading list books, I borrow cookery/education/maths books and my husband borrows books to research for his TV and film scripts.
A young girl has taken on a cash-strapped council over its attempt to close most of its libraries as it strives to save money.
Northamptonshire county council, which is effectively insolvent, had planned to close 21 of its 36 libraries but yesterday after a judicial review Mrs Justice Yip ruled in Birmingham that the authority's “flawed” decision-making process was unlawful. The council is implementing a series of radical cuts to reduce its services to the legal minimum in an effort to save £70 million and balance its books.
